Preparing your Apple device for service is key to ensuring data security and a smooth repair process. Below, we provide a detailed guide to help you properly prepare your iPhone, iPad, or other Apple device before handing it in for service.

Backup of data

Before sending a device for repair, it is extremely important to secure all data by creating a backup. This will help you avoid losing important information such as contacts, photos, notes or app settings.

Deactivation of “Find my iPhone” function

FMI, or the “Find My iPhone” function, is a key tool available on Apple devices, which is usually activated during the initial setup. It is part of the iCloud service, which allows you to synchronize information between Apple devices, create backups in the cloud, and make purchases in the App Store. The most important role of FMI is to protect the device from unauthorized access in case it is lost or stolen. With FMI active, third parties cannot use the device because it is linked to the owner’s Apple ID. The Apple ID is stored on Apple’s activation servers and linked directly to the device. To deactivate the “Find My iPhone” function, erase the data or reactivate the device, the Apple ID password is always required.

Before handing over your device for repair at an authorized Apple service center, you must disable the FMIfunction. This is essential to enable the service technician to diagnose and repair your device. When the FMI function is active, the technician does not have access to the full functionality of the device, which is required to carry out repairs according to Apple guidelines and standards. Disabling FMI also confirms that the device is the property of the person ordering the repair, which is crucial in the context of Apple service procedures. It is not necessary to disable the FMI function if you are only returning accessories such as a cable, case or Apple Watch strap for repair. Disabling FMI is only required if the device itself is being repaired.

Steps to deactivate the function:

  1. Open Settings on your device.
  2. Tap your name at the top of the screen.
  3. Select iCloud.
  4. Scroll down and tap Find My iPhone.
  5. Move the switch to deactivate this function.
  6. Enter your Apple ID password to confirm.

Log out of Apple ID

Let’s start with the most important information – never give anyone your Apple ID password, account access code or device code. Rest assured that as an Authorized Apple Service Provider, we will not require you to provide such information. Logging out of your Apple ID account before handing over your device to the service prevents unauthorized access to your data and protects your privacy.

Steps to log out:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap your name.
  3. Scroll down and select Log out.
  4. Enter your Apple ID password and confirm the logout.

Checking the serial number and IMEI

The serial number and IMEI are unique identifiers of your device. They are necessary during the service process and in situations such as reporting theft or verifying the authenticity of the device.

How to find these numbers:

On your device:

    1. Go to Settings > General > This device.
    2. You will find both the serial number and the IMEI there.

On the casing:

    1. For some models, the IMEI number is printed on the back of the device or on the SIM card tray.
